The Story

Nadja's Sv—originally released on CD by Essence Music back in 2016—finally sees a vinyl release on the band's own label, Broken Spine. For this re-issue, the album was re-mixed and -mastered especially for vinyl and features brand new artwork by Lapis Niger (from Uochi Toki). Sv was originally composed and first performed in 2012 for two festivals in Berlin, one a semi-legal outdoor rave under a highway overpass, the other an Armageddon-themed edition of Occultofest. Thematically (if not exactly sonically), Sv carries on from Nadja's 2007 album Radiance of Shadows exploring post-nuclear reality, combining layered, noisy drones with heavy industrial, almost-techno beats.

"It’s like being sucked down the drain of some massive sink, while war rhythms are played and it just happens to take forever to be pulled down by that repetitive swirl."
—The Sleeping Shaman

"Sv features one track, 'Sievert,' which lasts 41 minutes. Consisting of a combination of noises, drone explorations, claustrophobic percussion and negatively-charged bass, it’s an immense aural undertaking that deserves your full attention."
—Wonderbox Metal

"That screaming, excoriating, bruising crush of interlocking drumbeats and guitar chords feeling like they’re never going to end until that terminal fade and churn, that classic Nadja sound emerging at last."
—Freq

Nadja is a duo of Aidan Baker and Leah Buckareff creating heavy atmospheric music which combines noise and electronics, ambient and shoegaze, metal and industrial sounds. Nadja has been active since 2005, touring and performing around the world, and have released numerous albums on such labels as Alien8 Recordings, Southern Lord Records, and Hydrahead Records. Their most recent release, a collaboration with the Finnish math-grind duo Fawn Limbs, is Vestigial Spectra released in November 2023 by Wolves & Vibrancy, preceded by Labyrinthine, released in September 2022, on their own imprint, Broken Spine. Their forthcoming album cut will be released by Midira Records in September 2025. Originally from Toronto, Canada, Nadja has been based in Berlin, Germany for over a decade.
