Five years after A Love Supreme and at the height of the 60s, Karma became the fullest iteration of spiritual jazz. The lively, cyclical bass line and sung title evoke memories of A Love Supreme. "The Creator Has a Master Plan", a 33-minute carousel ride between soul and free jazz that triggered many a trip in the minds of the listeners at home and also evoked altered states in the players. "Pharoah was like a god, it was so spiritual," said Norman Connors, one of the many drummers who played with Sanders during this era. "The music was very sacred and had a certain sound, mystical and just beautiful."
